SMM: Opiate Special Vinyl Edition
For the limited edition of SMM: Opiate, the latest in our ongoing series of compilations exploring the evocative possibilities of sound, we wanted to do something unique beyond the color of the vinyl (which itself is already pretty fantastic). And so we partnered up with Brooklyn-based Kayrock to screen print an exclusive version of Michael Cina’s saturnine art for the limited vinyl jackets.
The special edition screen printed jacket for SMM: Opiate features 6 layers of water-based ink (3 greys, white, pink, and a clear gloss layer that sits over the white lines). The good folks at Kayrock worked tirelessly to match everything perfectly and exceed our expectations, along with letting us take some photos throughout the process, which you can see below.
For those who don’t know about Kayrock, a little background. In existence since 1998, Kayrock is one of the original tenants of (the late) Monster Island building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, now located in Greenpoint. Kayrock has produced gig posters for just about any band you can think of, as well as fine art printing and commercial printing on paper, fabric, and more.
The limited edition vinyl of SMM: Opiate features a smoke ring created by pouring white vinyl inside of the clear vinyl. Each jacket is hand-numbered.
